Key Fob & Transponder Programming in Seattle

Fob won't work, or key doesn't have a code anymore? We program your car keys, smart keys, and transponder chips, all right there at the site, in Seattle, WA.

Car keys today are a mix of metal and programming. Cutting out the right shape is one thing, but your car also has to be convinced that the key it recognizes, and that means programming. It's precisely that last part that so many online purchased keys fail at.

What programming actually achieves

In each modern car lies a computer with a list of authorized keys and fobs. Programming either adds a new entry to that list or deletes an old one. Leave out that step, and your cut-out key may very well rotate in the lock without turning the engine, or your fancy remote won't even lock the doors.

All car entry devices we program

  • Remote fobs - which can handle lock, unlock, trunk release, and the panic alarm.
  • Transponder chip keys - so the immobilizer can read the chip and clears the engine to start.
  • Proximity keys - for vehicles with push-to-start systems which are vey common nowadays.
  • Extra spare fobs - you picked up on your own and need them reprogrammed.

If you went online and bought a remote control or new key fob, most likely it came up unprogrammed remote fob just sits there, unable to perform its job. Bring it by our shop, and we should be able to cut and program the key to your car. Give us a call beforehand and let us know the car model, just to make sure we'll have the right type.

Why car fobs stop working

Before attempting the entire process once more, we attempt to rule out a few possible reasons for failure:

  • A drained fob battery: Before attempting the entire process once more, we attempt to rule out a few possible reasons for failure.
  • Wear and tear: cracked casing or exhausted buttons following many years of riding around in someone痴 pocket.
  • Lost sync: somtimes the fob loses connection with the vehicle and requires syncing once again.
  • Failed electronics: when the fob itself is no longer functional from any reason.

The process we follow

  1. We establish whether the problem is in the battery, the fob itself, or the programming.
  2. If your key fob needs to be replaced, we'll provide it ourselves or take yours and cut it if necessary.
  3. Once we get the device programmed, we make sure that the car accepts it.
  4. Finally after we got it all done, we test all buttons and the start command.
